Like all Secondary Slot pieces, Set Items have sockets for Normal gems only (no Legendary gems can be socketed here). However, the most powerful and desirable abilities are usually found on the 6-piece set bonus, so it's usually best to remain with a single set. You can mix and match sets by wearing 2 pieces from Set 1, 2 pieces from Set 2, and 2 pieces from Set 3 (or any combination of 2- and 4-piece Set Bonuses). The magic comes with combining items from the same set, as wearing 2, 4, or 6 pieces from the same set will give you special bonuses.
